40 Days of Focus: Day 15

Day 15: The Power of Prayer

Reflect On: Matthew 26:36-46 again.

“He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee…”

Why did Jesus ask these three to go with Him to pray?  Jesus was in great need.  He was grieved to the point of death.  Could it be that Jesus believed that the prayers of his closest friends, Peter, James, and John had the power to change the circumstances that were grieving Him? We can know for sure that Jesus would never have called these three away with Him unless He thought that their presence as he prayed was important.

It is almost scary to think that our prayers hold the power of life and death, but what if they do?  What if there are things that God cannot or will not do unless we pray? How would that change the way that you pray?  Would you value your prayer time more? Would the understanding that your prayers are full of power and purpose change they way you perceive Christ’s admonition to pray for one another?

If you had 12 sticks of dynamite, how would you handle them? Would you throw them over your shoulder like a sack of potatoes?  Or would you handle them with care and respect understanding the responsibility and the power that resides in them?  What purpose would you assign to your dynamite? Applied properly and with care, dynamite is essential for mining and building, as well as many other things. Your prayers are full of power and purpose. Use your power wisely!

What is a Faith Promise?  Glad you asked!

Just as a missionary is called to the mission field so also are those who partner with them through regular prayers and gifts.  A Faith Promise is the amount of money a ministry partner promises to give to a ministry out of obedience to the leading of Holy Spirit.  It is an amount of money missionaries can count on each month from a specific ministry partner.  Missionaries like us cannot step onto the mission field of their calling without the faith promises of God’s people  who partner to send them. Missionaries cannot go without being sent!
