Day 12: More Than Intercession
Read and Reflect On: Deuteronomy 9:12-21
“Then I lay prostrate before the Lord as before, forty days and forty nights,; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all the sin you had committed… But the Lord listened to me that time also”
Moses interceded for Aaron and the people. The word interceded does not really do justice to what Moses actually did for them. Moses suffered in repentance on behalf of the people for their idolatrous behavior. He saw God’s righteous fury toward them (especially toward Aaron) and for 40 days he pleaded for their lives. Moses admitted that the people were guilty, but reminded God of the covenant He had made with them. Thankfully, God listened to Moses and did not destroy them.
What part does repentance play in this time of lent for you? Are you ready to confess both personal and corporate sin and our true identity in Christ? Are you ready to turn from the wrong way to the right way in whatever area of your life a change is needed? Are you willing to repent and/or intercede like Moses?
Moses was moved to plead for the people because he saw the wrath of God first hand. On this side of the cross of Christ we have an even greater motivation. We have seen God’s mercy and grace. God is ready to do a mighty work among us. He wants us to remind Him of the New Covenant made through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. Will we allow Jesus to move us in such a way that we will suffer in intercession for the lives of others?
What is a Faith Promise? Glad you asked!
Just as a missionary is called to the mission field so also are those who partner with them through regular prayers and gifts. A Faith Promise is the amount of money a ministry partner promises to give to a ministry out of obedience to the leading of Holy Spirit. It is an amount of money missionaries can count on each month from a specific ministry partner. Missionaries like us cannot step onto the mission field of their calling without the faith promises of God’s people who partner to send them. Missionaries cannot go without being sent!
