Day 4: Scripture and Temptation
Read and Reflect On: Luke 4:1-13
“It is written…”
Fasting and temptation go hand-in-hand. If you fast you WILL be tempted. Jesus gives us the model for how we are to handle temptation in Luke 4. The devil tempts Jesus with crafty words on three occasions at the end of His fast. Each time Jesus counters with scripture.
Each time we are tempted, scripture is the best weapon to escape the temptation. As you fast, hold tight to at least one piece of scripture that will be able to “fire” at the enemy when he comes to tempt you. Choose something easy to memorize or something you can write down and carry with you so that always be ready and “loaded.” Be ore oared to say the Word of God out-loud if you have to. Satan will be full of holes by the time we get through with him.
What is a Faith Promise? Glad you asked!
Just as a missionary is called to the mission field so also are those who partner with them through regular prayers and gifts. A Faith Promise is the amount of money a ministry partner promises to give to a ministry out of obedience to the leading of Holy Spirit. It is an amount of money missionaries can count on each month from a specific ministry partner. Missionaries like us cannot step onto the mission field of their calling without the faith promises of God’s people who partner to send them. Missionaries cannot go without being sent!
