Many Steps at a Fast Pace
We cannot believe how fast the last three months have come and gone. We have been extremely busy this Summer. The kids and Allison finished up at Cabarrus Charter Academy. Allison went to a Homeschool conference in Winston-Salem and is preparing to Homeschool the children this fall. We had numerous appointments with individuals and churches, which has be en amazing. We have reconnected with many beloved friends and been greatly encouraged by the number of people who have begun supporting us and our mission to Ecuador. We are currently at 46% funded, which is really good! We continue to pray and seek ministry partners so that we can reach our 100% goal by the holidays and start language school in January.
Trained and Commissioned
Given our goal of being fully funded in time for language school, we were invited to come to OMS headquarters in Greenwood, Indiana in July and go through CROSS training. CROSS training is a three-week intensive training designed to prepare us for life on the mission field. The CROSS stands for Cultural, Relational, Organizational, Scriptural, and Strategic. These are the general areas we were trained in. Our training included everything from evangelism and spiritual warfare to health and safety and language learning. We studied alongside 15 other missionaries going to nine different countries. We were commissioned as missionaries on July 31. The kids were trained too! They were taught about what it means to be an MK (Missionary Kid) and what to expect as we transition from the familiar here in the USA to the unfamiliar of another country. They learned about the gifts and challenges of growing up in another culture and God’s plan for them overseas. We were proud of our kids and the way they handled training and traveling.
California and Back Again
CROSS training wasn’t the only learning we had this Summer. After commissioning, we left on a plane for Redding, California, while the kids stayed with their Grandparents. In California, we received remarkable marriage mentoring with Steve and Lorraine Box and attended a marriage retreat led by them in Redding. The Box’s have been missionaries in Kenya and have over thirty years of ministry experience nationally and internationally. And they go to Ecuador twice a year! It was time well spent, making our healthy marriage healthier and getting ready for the challenges that are ahead of us.
So now we head into the Fall encouraged and equipped! Please pray for us as we continue asking for ministry partners. With your help our next “Fletcher Steps” newsletter will be all about the purchase of plane tickets and preparations for language school! All we need is a few more faithful partners, and we will be on our way!
